Yesterday's overland California express carried a party of three young men
bent upon an interesting mission. W. G. Steel, S. S. Nicholine and E. D. Dewert
left for Josephine county, where they will explore the
famous Josephine county caves and afterwards Crater Lake.

bill granting Oregon five townships in Oregon, including the
famous Crater lake, for a public park, is a subject for
congratulation.

Senator Dolph has presented a bill, the provisions of which donates the land
around Crater Lake, Oregon, to the State for a public park.

A party sent out by the
Geological Survey, under the command of Captain Clarence E.
Dutton, U. S. A., has succeeded in reaching and making a
complete survey of Crater Lake n Oregon, a body of water
whose shores, with the possible exception of one point' on
the south, have never before been touched by the foot of
white men.

be in the heart of a mountain hollowed but by volcanic
