Obituary: Carl Fredrick Wilson

Carl Fredrick Wilson, 97, a former Klamath County resident, died Dec. 6, 2001, of natural causes in Salem.

Funeral services will not be held.


Mr. Wilson was born April 28, 1904, in Marquette, Mich.

In 1910, he moved with his family to Portland.


He graduated from Oregon Agricultural College in 1925 with a degree in civil engineering and worked for Southern Pacific Railway when tunnels were being built along Odell Lake.

He later moved back to Portland, where he joined his brother, J. Andrew Wilson, in a hardware store at Northeast 48th Street and Sandy Boulevard.


He married Anna-Vesta Williams in 1932 in Portland.

They joined his brother, Richard Wilson, and his wife, Ada, at Sand Creek Station on Highway 97 near the east entrance to Crater Lake National Park to cater to the tourist trade.

When the highway was moved to its present location in 1937, they built another establishment, Wilson's Cottages on Highway 62 near the south entrance to the park.

Mr. Wilson retired in 1987.


He later moved to Salem to be near his daughter.


Survivors include his son, Carrel "Sandy" Wilson; daughter, Gretchen Wilson; granddaughters, Cynthia deLamare and Candace Sclimenti; great-grandsons, Andrew and Matthew deLamare; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and grand-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1946 and his brother, Richard Wilson, in 1960, and a sister Ada Wilson in Oct.
