proposal, Crater Lake entry fees would double

CRATER LAKE, Ore. (AP) -- Heading to Oregon's only national park
could get a lot more expensive, if proposed fee increased are
approved.
Under the proposal from the Federal Lands Recreation Enactment
Act, entrance fees at Crater Lake would double from $10 to $20
in January 2008.
The increase is part of a nationwide hike of park entrance fees.
Public comments on the proposed increases at both Crater Lake
and Lava Beds will be taken Jan. 1 through March 31.
Crater Lake superintendent Chuck Lundy said the proposed
increase would provide more money for projects and help improve
visitor facilities and services throughout the park.
Already, money from entry fees have paid for new informational
exhibits and signs, new and upgraded restrooms, new boat docks
and improved trails in the park.
The Crater Lake annual pass, valid for entry for one full year
from the date of purchase, would increase from $20 to $40. The
$10 per night camping fee at Lost Creek Campground and
commercial tour rates would remain unchanged.
