Day will be to 'chart a path to the future'

The Friends of Crater Lake National Park group will have its annual meeting at the park Saturday with morning programs and a luncheon meeting.

President George Buckingham said the gathering will be a "day to review the past and chart a path to the future."

The group has been active in a variety of park projects, such as staffing a visitor information desk during the winter at the Rim Village Cafeteria, providing volunteers at lookouts, building trails, installing bear-proof storage lockers in Lost Creek Campground and, last summer, coordinating many of the park's centennial activities.

People planning to attend are asked to notify Friends members for lunch reservations.

Activities will begin with registration at the Steel Circle community center at 9:30 a.m. Coffee and rolls will be provided. At 10, park superintendent Chuck Lundy and staff will give an overview of the park's pending general management plan. At 11, Lundy will hold an informal chat while updating Friends on park matters.

Lunch is set for at Crater Lake Lodge. Friends members will sit as a group.

The session will resume with the official annual meeting, including an election of officers, at 1 p.m. at the Rim Village Community House. The gathering should end by 3:30 p.m.

Lunch reservations can be made by calling Buckingham in Chiloquin at 783-3136 or by emailing him at crlaranger@ alwaysonnetworks.com. Lunch prices are $4.95 to $12.50 for salads, $8.25 to $8.95 for sandwiches or $8.75 to $12.95 for entrees.
