Local pair to help promote the Volcanic, All American Scenic road

Two Klamath County people will join a two-state board to promote the Volcanic Legacy Scenic By-Way All American Road.

The by-way, one of only 20 All-American roads in the nation, connects Crater Lake National Park with Mount Lassen and Lassen Volcanic National Park through a 500-mile scenic "Volcano to Volcano" journey.

Oregon's portion of the All American Road was designated in 1999 and the California portion of the road was designated last June. With the inclusion of the California portion, a strong emphasis has been placed on promoting a "seamless" by-way system connecting the communities and diverse attractions along the entire All-American Road.
 

Oregon's participants on the board are Stephanie Bailey, the Klamath County Chamber of Commerce's executive director, and Cindy Deas of the Klamath-Lake-Modoc-Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Group.

The board also has representatives from the California communities of Barney, Chester, McCloud, Mount Shasta City, Susanville, Tulelake and Weed. Advisory members will include representatives from agencies including the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Ore-Cal Resource Conservation and Development group.

"We are very excited about the possibilities that this partnership will bring to the communities all along the by-way especially those in Klamath County," said Bailey. "It is a win-win for both California and Oregon and will create great opportunities for our businesses and communities by increasing the number of tourists traveling in our region."

In addition to promoting the byway's recreational and outdoor attractions, communities and businesses will be able to showcase regional arts and crafts featured in local galleries, boutique shopping, theater, dining opportunities and much more.
