Man Hurt in Crater Lake Fall Improves

Ole Vann, injured in a 250-foot fall at Crater Lake National Park last
Friday, has been moved from the intensive care unit to regular patient quarters
and is in "good" condition, the Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital disclosed
today.
Vann, 22, Venice, Calif., incurred a broken leg and two broken arms when he
fell from a precipice into Annie Creek Canyon about 3 p.m. Friday.
A rescue party of four park rangers, led by District Ranger Marvin Hershey,
lowered one of its members on ropes to a ledge occupied by Vann and prepared the
victim in a litter to be hoisted back up the canyon. The rescue was completed at
7 p.m. when Vann was transferred to Peace Ambulance and moved to the local
hospital.
The accident occured when the young man was sightseeing with his parents and
went to close to the edge of the canyon.
