Meeting set on Middle Fork Fire

FORT KLAMATH — The U.S. Forest Service will host an informational meeting on the Middle Fork Fire from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at the Community Involvement Club in Fort Klamath.

The nearly 18,000-acre fire is burning in the Sky Lakes Wilderness Area and in a small southwest corner of Crater Lake National Park.

Nearly 1,000 firefighters are battling the fire. A camp was established this past weekend at the Annie Springs Sno-Park near Crater Lake’s south boundary.

T he lightning-caused f ire was about 20 percent contained Sunday. Full containment is not expected until Oct. 1, but it will not be considered fully out until there is significant rain or snow, officials said. Trails in the northern third of Sky Lakes, from Devil’s Peak along the Pacific Crest Trail to the north boundary are closed, as are trails south of Highway 62 at Crater Lake.
