Obituaries: Glen F. Happel

The funeral for Glen F. Happel will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 4663 Lancaster Drive NE, Salem. Interment will be on Thursday in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.


Memorial contributions may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 4663 Lancaster Drive NE, Salem, OR 97305.


He was born Jan. 7, 1915, in Allen County, Ind.


On April 12, 1942, he married Wilma P. Gemeinhardt, who died in 1990.


During World War II, he worked as a civilian welder for the Navy at the Long Beach and Los Angeles Harbor shipyards.

They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1946, when he began working as a millwright in the Grants Pass area.


From 1951-55, the Happels were caretakers at the Oregon Caves National Monument for the concessionaire. In 1955, he went to work at Crater Lake National Park, where he stayed for 27 years.


Mr. Happel enjoyed woodworking.


Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Lisle, Salem; and three grandchildren.


Friends may pay their respects from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service
