CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK - Public comments on a plan to
rehabilitate the historic superintendent's house at Crater Lake
National Park are being requested by the National Park Service.
The project is planned at the house, which is a listed National
Historic Landmark, as part of a larger plan to create a Crater
Lake Science and Learning Center. The superintendent's house
will be used for the center's administrative staff and for
public use. Construction is scheduled to begin next spring.
The building had been used for seasonal employees until recent
years, when it fell into a state of disrepair and was determined
to be uninhabitable. It does not meet current standards for
electrical, mechanical, fire and seismic criteria.
The
project will provide for the building's preservation,
stabilization and adaptive reuse.
To review the environmental assessment visit the park's Web site
at www.nps.gov/crla/SuptResidenceEA.htm. Copies of the
assessment are also available at the park and public libraries
in Klamath Falls and elsewhere in Oregon.
People with questions or wanting to request a paper or CD copy
of the assessment should contact Michael Justin at 594-3008 or
by e-mail at Michael_Justin@nps.gov.
