The lake wasn't visible, subfreezing winds made conditions miserable and the sun was nowhere to be found.

But undaunted by the weather, Crater Lake National Park rangers Don Clark and Pete Reinhardt stood by the unseen lake Wednesday and praised the beauty of Crater Lake during videotaped interviews for ABC’s Good Morning America.

“Crater Lake is an absolutely beautiful lake, " Clark told interviewer Matt Frucci during filming, which was moved to a slightly sheltered area off the rim because of bonechilling winds.

“I think it’s the most beautiful in winter.”

Clark is a retired Navy commander who moved to Agency Lake from Florida. He’s spent four years at the park as a volunteer and seasonal interpretative ranger.

Reinhardt, who has worked as a park ranger for nearly 14 years, talked on-camera about the joys of living and working at the park, noting he can step out of his park residence and take off on cross-country skis.

Park Ranger Don Clark is interviewed by Good Morning America’s Matt Frucci, right, at the Crater Lake rim Wednesday afternoon while cameraman Steve M. Douglas and audio technician Dale Jestice film the event.
