Crater Lake National Park, Ore. (UPI) - Crater Lake National Park is expected to reopen within days as "the most sanitary place in the United States," Ralph Peyton, president of Crater Lake Lodge Inc, said Friday.

The scenic park in the Southern Oregon Cascades has been closed since July 11 because illness of several hundred park visitors and employees was traced to a water supply contaminated by raw sewage.

Peyton, whose firm operates the lodge under a concession from the National Park Service, said it would be "days, not weeks," before the park opens again but he could not yet name a specific date.
