Service staff to teach students

Chiloquin Elementary School students are going to have the
opportunity of receiving science-related lessons from Crater
Lake National Park personnel.
Klamath County School District officials are working with the
National Park Service staff to develop the program.
"We'll probably be able to start the program next fall,"
according to Doug Smith, the school district's director of
curriculum and instruction.
He
notified the school district's board of directors of the
proposed program Thursday evening.
"At
first, it will involve only students from Chiloquin Elementary
School, but we hope to be able to expand it to other elementary
schools later," he reported.
The grades that will benefit from the partnership have not been
determined yet, but they will definitely be elementary school
grades, he said.
The lessons provided by the national park personnel will be
integrated into the science curriculum at the school, he added.
The program will be coordinated by Gregg Pohll, who is a
fourth-grade teacher at Chiloquin Elementary School.
On another topic, the board appointed Lonald Bradshaw and Don
Richie to serve two-year terms as lay-members of the school
district's budget committee.
