North Entrance Road also closes for the winter season
CRATER LAKE - Most of the roads at Crater Lake National Park are
closed for the winter.
East Rim Drive was closed earlier this week. Wednesday park
officials announced the closure of the North Entrance Road and
Rim Drive.
Park spokesman Michael Justin said 12 inches of snow fell
Tuesday night and early Wednesday. With more storms expected
this week, it was decided to go ahead with the seasonal road
closures.
The south and west entrances to the park will remain open
through the winter. Weather permitting, travel from park
headquarters to Rim Village will be possible until seasonal road
openings begin late next spring.
Information about road and weather conditions at the park can be
obtained by calling park headquarters at 594-3000.
Winter season visitor services are provided at the Will Steel
Visitor Information Center in Munson Valley next to park
headquarters. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The gift store and cafeteria at Rim Village are also open
year-round, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5
p.m. weekends, holidays and vacation periods. Limited food
service is available.
