Snow Falls on Southern Oregon

Reno Evening Gazette

Unexpected snow over southern Oregon mountains closed part of Crater Lake National Park today, halted filming of a motion picture, and trapped a woman and three children in a snowdrift.

Mrs. Frances A. Hale, Alhambra, Calif., and her 13-year-old son hiked 12 miles for help after her car stalled in a snow bank on a Crater lake entrance road during the night. Hangers at park headquarters brought Mrs. Hale's 17 and 11 year old daughters, left in the stalled car, to safety.

Crater lake park's north and east entrances were closed by snow and officials said the entire park would be closed for the winter.
