Youth Questioned in Double Killing

The FBI said Thursday it was questioning an 18-year-old hitchhiker in the slaying of two businessmen July 21 at Crater Lake, Ore.

Special Agent D. K. Brown, in charge of the Salt Lake office of the FBI, said, "We are investigating William K. Russell, who is being held on an armed robbery charge at Duchesne County, to determine whether he might be involved in the Crater Lake murders."
 

A charge of armed robbery was filed against Russell by Sheriff Arzie Mitchell, who arrested the teenager Tuesday in a Duchesne, Utah, hotel room. Mitchell said the boy told him his home town was Tulsa, Okla.

He was charged after Arnold Schulthes, Vernal, Utah, said Russell was the hitchhiker who robbed him near Duchesne on Tuesday.

The bodies of A. M. Jones, 56, Concord, Cal., and C. P. Culhane, Detroit, Mich., were found in the woods of Crater Lake National Park on July 21. They had been missing since their car was found two days before on a lookout point near the park.

Brown would not elaborate on his statement that an Investigation was under way.
