William Steel becomes the first person to successfully illuminate Mt. Hood with “Red Fire”. The light was seen in Portland.

October


Will Steel organizes the Oregon Alpine Club in Portland. The Club is soon bankrupt.

Ben Barton, Box 365, Coquille, Oregon, tells the story of his father Jesse Sario Barton, age 16, blazing his name on a tree near Rim Village. Barton had come to the Park with his stepfather, Dr. Nicolin and William Steel.

Judge John Waldo, while on an exploratory trip through Crater Lake, shoots two prong horn antelope in the Pumice Desert area.
