Naturalists – Wayne R. Howe, 1946 – 1950

Wayne R. Howe

Wayne Howe served as a park ranger at Crater Lake National Park from 1946 to 1950 and as acting National Park Service regional director for operations (in Seattle) in 1975. He retired 30 years later as the Associate Regional Director for Operations in Seattle.

During that career, he was one of the few people in the NPS to go from a GS-3 fire control aide to a GS-14 even serving as acting regional director for a few months in 1975. He continues to stay active in the Employee and Alumni Association of the NPS and Friends of Crater Lake.
