Crater Lake
Institute Website Log
This page is for keeping
track of changes I (the webmaster, Information Architect, graphic designer.....
Robert Mutch) make to this web site.
- The
top two levels of the
Natural History
section are now online. With this structure in place I can
begin working on adding individual subjects such as
wildflowers, the night sky, and so on. I'm also working on
the cultural history and resource management sections of the
site (getting the top two levels online) 3/21/2007
- Also,
I am putting together some Google Groups, one for Crater
Lake News announcements and another for CLI members.
3/21/2007
- I have been spending quite a bit of time looking into
expanding our presence with many of these new
social-networking sites that are popping up such as Digg,
Squidoo, NewsVine, and others; I'v been making
profiles/accounts for the CLI and my photo business.
3/14/2007
- I'm
working on fleshing out the Resource Management and Cultural
History section of the web site right now. I won't get them
completely filled out, but, it will be better than the blank
page user are now faced with. 3/14/2007
- Completed
browsable version
of Crater Lake News pages. Users will now have a way of
navigating the daunting list of news articles we have (now
over 300); Working on a search function for the news section
will be another project. 3/14/2007
-
Finally, I have added to the Trip Planning sub-section of
the site. This includes the
Current Conditions
and
F.A.Q.s. I will
add and revise them (as I do with everything on this site)
over time. Let me know what you think...online
form.
2/28/2007
- Well, I'm considering
just starting a blog, so, I can keep a running commentary of
updates to this site and get input from users...what do you
think...contact me through our
online form.
- I'v
added some photos to
Ron's and my (Rob)
'about me' pages, so people can get a look at us, make
things a bit more personable. 2/24/07
-
Our first Op Ed piece is now online at our
Press Room. It
concerns President Bush's recent 2008 budget proposal in
regards to the National Park Service. The picture isn't as
glowing as it would first appear...ugh! 2/21/07
-
Registered the domain name craterlakeinstitute.org for 10
years with GoDaddy, so, we can direct those people who might
be thinking of us as .org instead of .com to our website.
2/18/07
- Also,
I have decided to reformat the appearance of the news
articles on the main Crater Lake National Park news pages.
I'v gotten rid of the linked URLs and linked the main
titles. This should get better Search Engine Optimization
results as keywords are linked rather than just the URL and
most users weren't interested (I don't think) in knowing
what the URL was. And, have a couple lines of summary about
the article with the title gives the users a better idea of
what the article is about before they click into it, as news
article titles are often confusing. 2/2/07
- FINALLY! The
Donation pages
are now online. After much procrastination and moaning and
groaning, and trouble-shooting of pages, they seem to be
more-or-less working. Phew! It took about 3 weeks of
intermittent work to complete this set of pages. 2/2/07
- The
Nature Notes
pages are finally online. I'v been working on these for the
past few days. 1/22/07 - 1/30/07
- put online rest of Oral
History Series transcripts (4 more). 11/22/06 - 11/28/06
- added meta tags (description
and title) to all pages currently online (phew!)11/16/06 -
11/20/06
- updated TITLE tags for
Crater Lake News pages and for top-level domain pages.
- updated Crater Lake News
pages. 11/14/06
- added 6 new oral histories
to the Oral History Series. These included: Ted Arthur,
Carrol B. Howe, Marvin Nelson, Emmett Blanchfield, James S.
Rouse, and John Lowery Dobson. 11/14/06
- adding books, articles, and
maps to the Digitial Archvies sub-site (there are about 96
now). 11/10/06 - 11/13/06
- fixing links to Oral history
sub-section pages 11/2/06
- fixing links to Crater Lake
news pages. 11/1/06
- fixing links to
about-us pages, contact-us, and other pages. 10/31/06
- I'v finally put up the
new Website, the project I was working on last winter. The
content is the same as the last Website, but, the template
is new and the information architecture (what I was reading
about over the winter) allows for more expansion, more content. 10/30/06
- added staff (that's me) and
board member bio pages 5/29/06
- edited links and other minor
errors to handbook pages 5/29/06
- added NPS Oral History
Handbook to Oral Archives sub-section. 5/28/06
