In Southern Oregon, sixty miles north of the
California line, stands a broken remnant of a once mighty
mountain. In the ancient crater bowl of this mountain, lies
one of the world's scenic wonders, a lake whose romantic
setting and bewitching coloring are unmatched anywhere. The
lake itself is a six and one half miles long and four and a
quarter miles wide. Its depth varies up to 2000 feet. It is
entirely surrounded by steep volcanic cliffs that rise 2000
feet above the surface.
