Activity Type:
Monitoring
Subject/Discipline:
Monitor Natural Resources
Objectives:
The objectives of EMAP are to
collect baseline data for 12 western states (including Oregon) and determine the
current status of aquatic natural resources. The data will be used to assess the
"health" of aquatic resources across the western US, as well as within
individual states. This is achieved through a random probability sampling
design. A total of 15 sites per year in each of the 12 western states, as well
as sites in special-interest study areas, will be surveyed in the years
2000-2003.
Findings and Status: Our randomly
selected survey location was on a tributary to Union Creek, in the south-west
corner of Crater Lake National Park. On Thursday June 28th, 2001, our crew hiked
in from USFS 710 (approximately 4.5-5.0 miles) to the Union Creek tributary site
location (GPS coordinates = 42.8487, 122.2337). Upon reaching the site, we found
the stream to be dry within our prescribed study reach. A scan of the stream
both upstream and downstream several hundred meters found the stream to be
intermittent, with standing pools and small areas of flow; however, the entire
prescribed study reach was dry. No data was collected.
For this study, were one or
more specimens collected and removed from the park but not destroyed during
analyses?
No
