Description

This photograph of a dead Whitebark Pine overlooking Crater Lake's Wizard Island was taken from Crater Lake National Park's West Rim Drive.

Whitebark Pine (Pinus albicaulis) is a keystone species, a supplier of pine nuts, seeds and shelter to wildlife. This long-lived pine is in peril due to the exotic blister rust disease. Many have died along Crater Lake National Park West Rim Drive.
