This photo of an old
Whitebark Pine stump overlooking Crater Lake, Wizard Island,
and Llao Rock was taken from Garfield Peak Trail.
Whitebark Pine (Pinus
albicaulis) is a keystone species, a supplier of
pine nuts, seeds and shelter to wildlife. This
long-lived pine is in peril due to the exotic rust
disease. Many have died along Crater Lake National
Park West Rim Drive.
