Description

Following a world-wide cooling event around 34 million years ago, the subtropical-like forests of Oregon were gradually replaced by more temperate ones. Thirty three million years ago, the landscape of eastern Oregon consisted of hilly topography that held numerous lake basins holding an abundance of fossils from trees like Metasequoia (the dawn redwood), leaf-eating horses and short-faced dogs.
