Description

Enraptured by the sublime, first photo of Crater Lake, August 12th, 1874. Pioneer photographer, Peter Britt, Jacksonville, Oregon, captured this scene of Crater Lake once storm clouds lifted. Britt's son, Emil, scans the great volcanic cauldron.

Emil's birth was celebrated by planting a giant Sequoia seedling, in 1862, which grows today in Britt Gardens, Jacksonville, OR. Southern Oregon Historical Society #724
