A public memorial service for the 8-year-old Portland boy who was lost at Crater Lake National Park in October is scheduled for next week.
The service for Samuel Boehlke will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 1200 S.W. Alder St. in Portland, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25.
“We invite Sam’s friends and the entire community to the service, including rescue personnel and their families, who have sacrificed for us,” Kirsten Becker, the boy’s mother, said in a statement.
The boy became separated from his father Oct. 14 in the woods along the lake’s north rim. Search and rescue crews joined family members in trying to locate the boy before autumn snows halted the search earlier this month.
The family hopes to resume the search when snows clear next year.
