Rangers at Crater Lake National Park will guide free, one-mile walks through forests and meadows along the crater’s rim from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through April 27. The hikes are appropriate for ages 8 and older and no previous snowshoeing experience is needed.

Snowshoes are provided free of charge, or visitors can bring their own. Participants should bring warm clothing, thick socks and water-resistant footwear. Walks cover moderately strenuous terrain at an elevation of about 7,100 feet.

There is no cost to enter the park in winter. Advance reservations are recommended as space is limited. To reserve a spot, call 541-594-3100. Group tours on weekdays or weekends can also be arranged by calling 541-594-3093. For road conditions, call 800-977-6368 or see www.tripcheck.com before setting out.
