 II. Preliminary Description of the Alternatives

A. No Action

There will be no significant changes from the present developments, visitor services, or public use of the park. Status quo on camping, picnicking, lodgings, roads, boats, administrative headquarters, and residences will be continued.

B. Rim Village

    1. Selective reduction of the Rim Village development

        a. Eliminate concession-operated cabins and outdated National Park Service structures.

        b. Remodel upper floors of the Crater Lake Lodge.

        c. Provide a new access road to cafeteria, store, Crater

Lake Lodge and other Rim Village facilities.

        d. Convert the existing parking areas into a pedestrian mall.

        e. Convert the Rim Campground into a day-use area.

        f. Provide shuttle bus to service the Rim Village area.

    2. Major phase out of Rim Village development.

        a. Gradually phase out all Rim Village structures, except access road, parking areas, and Sinnott Memorial.

        b. Convert the Rim Campground into a day-use picnic area.
