January 5 1893 Crater Lake in Midwinter Geo. Farnsworth arrived at Klamath Falls, January 5, having traveled on snow-shoes over the Cascades. He is one of the few men who have been to Crater Lake in midwinter. The snow is 20 feet deep in that region. The lake is frozen except an area of half a mile in the center. He says the ultramarine of the water contrasting with the whiteness of the snow produces a dazzling and weird effect. September 26 1893 The lowest water level known was observed when it was measured a foot below the level measured on September 15, 1901.
