It’s been nearly a month since 10,000 rounds of ammunition were discovered missing from Crater Lake National Park.  As KLCC’s Brian Bull reports, the reward money has increased and investigators have released a surveillance video.   

On the morning of Monday, February 6th, a park ranger noticed a door on a building near the headquarters was ajar.  The National Park Service is working with Oregon State Police to determine who stole the pistol and rifle ammo, and why. 

A reward for any information leading to the identification and arrest of those responsible has since increased, from $1,000 to $5,000.

Jennifer Evans is a spokeswoman for Crater Lake National Park. She says there’s also video showing what authorities call a “witness vehicle” passing by the Annie Creek entrance station on the southern portion of the park.

“The vehicle entered at approximately 2:30am on February 6th,” Evans tells KLCC.  “And investigators released it because they want to identify the occupants of the vehicle, in the event that they may have witnessed something that could help with the case.” 

The vehicle appears to be a pickup truck.  Evans says despite the theft, there’s no perceived threat or danger to Crater Lake National Park or its visitors.
