Report Number: 12840

Date Received: Jan 01, 1999

Reporting Year: 1998

Principal Investigator: Casey Baldwin, University of Idaho, Dept. Forest Resources

Permit#: CRLA1998BALD

Park-assigned Study Id. # CRLA1998BALD

Permit Expiration Date: Jan 01, 2000

Permit Start Date: Jan 01, 1999

Study Starting Date: Jan 01, 1997

Study Ending Date: Jan 01, 1999

Study Status: Completed

Activity Type: Monitoring

Subject/Discipline: Other

Objectives: Develop large scale vegetative propagation and seedling propagation protocols. 2) Determine the physical and biological factors significant to the establishment success f c. mazama. 3) Develop photographic monitoring protocols for long-term monitoring of populations. 4) Develop educational materials for both the general public and park personnel.

Findings and Status:  No significant difference in mortality rates between seedlings and clones used for restoration. Spring planting resulted in a 10% mortality rate due to removal of plants from holes by grazing deer. No significant difference between inoculated and non-inoculated planting material. No significant difference in plant size or flower number between vegetatively propagated material and seedlings grown in a common environment.

For this study, were one or more specimens collected and removed from the park but not destroyed during analyses? No
